For Individuals & Families

Your Health Insurance
Has a Gap. Let's Fill It.

Most health plans don't cover all your costs. You still have your copays and deductible — not to mention any lost income or daily expenses that pile up when you're sick or hurt. That's where supplemental insurance comes in.

What Your Health Plan Doesn't Cover

Even with good health insurance, a serious illness or injury can leave you with bills your plan won't touch — and income you can't replace.

When You Get Hurt or Sick... Standard Health Insurance + Supplemental Insurance
Hospital stay costs (room, nursing, tests) Partial — after deductible & copays ✓ Cash benefit paid directly to you
Income lost while you recover ✗ Not covered ✓ Short-term disability pays your bills
Transportation to/from treatment ✗ Not covered ✓ Accident/cancer plan includes this
Childcare during your recovery ✗ Not covered ✓ Benefits paid to you, use however needed
Cancer-specific treatments & costs ~ Partially ✓ Cancer policy fills remaining gaps
Deductibles & out-of-pocket ~ Copays remain ✓ Benefits deposited directly to you
Your mortgage/rent while hospitalized ✗ Not covered ✓ You decide how to use your cash benefits

Coverage details vary by policy. Contact us for a personalized review of your situation.

How Supplemental Insurance Works

Simple in concept, powerful in practice. Your benefits are paid directly to you — not your doctor, not your hospital.

1

A Covered Event Happens

You're diagnosed with cancer, involved in an accident, hospitalized, or another covered event occurs.

2

You File a Simple Claim

Submit documentation of the event. Aflac processes claims fast — often within days, not weeks.

3

Cash Paid Directly to You

Your benefit is deposited directly to your bank account. No involvement from your doctor or hospital.

4

Use It However You Need

Pay your rent, mortgage, groceries, gas, childcare — whatever helps your family stay stable while you recover.

Real Situations Where This Matters

These aren't hypotheticals. They're the kinds of calls Lisa and Sean receive from families who wish they'd planned ahead.

🏥

Unexpected Hospitalization

Maria, 38, a teacher, slipped on a hiking trail and broke her hip. Her health insurance covered the surgery — but her 6-week recovery meant no paycheck. Her mortgage, car payment, and family expenses didn't pause.

With accident & short-term disability coverage: Cash benefits helped cover 8 weeks of household expenses while she healed. Her family never fell behind.
🎗

Cancer Diagnosis

David, 51, a contractor, was diagnosed with colon cancer. Treatment meant months of reduced work capacity. His health insurance handled the medical bills — but the gas for 40 treatment drives, the lost jobs, the supplements, the fatigue? Those came out of savings.

With a cancer insurance policy: Lump-sum and ongoing benefits offset the financial side of treatment, letting him focus on recovery instead of bills.
❤️

Heart Attack at 46

Kevin, 46, had a heart attack while coaching his son's soccer team. He survived — but his 3-month cardiac rehab meant he couldn't work. His family had savings, but not three months' worth for a family of four.

With critical illness coverage: A lump-sum benefit was paid upon diagnosis. It covered exactly what health insurance couldn't: their life.
👩‍👧

Young Family, Tight Budget

Jessica, 29, and her husband just had their first baby. They have health insurance through his employer — but the deductible is $4,000. One ER visit with their infant wiped out their emergency fund.

With hospital indemnity & accident coverage: Benefits paid directly helped rebuild savings and gave them confidence their growing family was protected.

These stories are illustrative examples. Individual coverage, benefits, and outcomes vary by policy. Ask us what's right for your situation.

Is Supplemental Insurance Right for You?

You might benefit from supplemental coverage if you answer yes to any of these:

  • Do you have a high-deductible health plan (HDHP)?
  • Would a month without income create financial strain?
  • Do you have children or family members who depend on your earnings?
  • Is there a history of cancer or heart disease in your family?
  • Are you self-employed or an independent contractor?
  • Do you have less than 3 months of expenses saved as an emergency fund?
  • Are you active in sports, outdoor activities, or physical work?

If you checked even one box, a conversation with Lisa or Sean costs nothing and could save you thousands.

Common Questions

Honest answers about how supplemental insurance works.

Do I need supplemental insurance if I already have good health insurance?
Health insurance covers medical care. Supplemental insurance covers your life — the income you lose, the bills that don't stop, the costs that aren't medical. Even with excellent health coverage, most people face significant out-of-pocket expenses during a serious illness or injury. Supplemental policies pay cash directly to you to cover those gaps.
Can I get supplemental insurance on my own, outside of my employer?
Yes. You don't need to get it through an employer. Individual and family supplemental plans are available regardless of your employment status. This is especially valuable for the self-employed, freelancers, part-time workers, and anyone whose employer doesn't offer these benefits.
How affordable are these policies?
Supplemental insurance is designed to be affordable — many policies are available for less than a daily cup of coffee. The right plan depends on your age, health, lifestyle, and the level of coverage you want. We'll always show you options at different price points and explain the trade-offs clearly before you decide anything.
Can I have multiple supplemental policies at the same time?
Yes. Many families carry 2–3 supplemental policies (for example, accident + critical illness + short-term disability) because they cover different risk scenarios. We'll help you understand which combination makes sense for your specific situation without over-insuring or under-insuring.
What's the claims process like?
Much simpler than traditional health insurance claims. For most Aflac policies, you submit documentation of the covered event, and Aflac processes and pays your claim directly — often within days. There's no negotiating with hospitals, no waiting for reimbursement from your health insurer. The benefit is paid to you to use as you see fit.
Does supplemental insurance replace health insurance?
No — supplemental insurance is designed to work alongside your existing health coverage, not replace it. It fills the financial gaps that health insurance leaves behind. If you also need help finding or optimizing your health insurance plan, Lisa and Sean can assist with that too.
